Electrocardiogram (ECG) technicians specialize in operating equipment that records the electrical activity of the heart. Their work involves using ECG machines to capture data that aids physicians and cardiologists in diagnosing cardiovascular conditions. ECG technicians must be proficient in the technical aspects of the equipment and capable of accurately interpreting the results. This role often requires physical strength for moving patients and equipment and the ability to work compassionately with individuals experiencing severe heart-related health issues.
Requirements
Theoretical, practical, and procedural knowledge of the following:
1.ECG Testing: Attach electrodes to patients to record heart electrical impulses. Operate ECG machines and ensure accurate data collection. Provide ECG readings for physician analysis.
2.Stress Testing: Connect patients to an ECG monitor for baseline readings. Monitor heart activity during controlled treadmill exercise. Record ECG data at different levels of physical exertion.
3.Holter Monitoring: Set up portable ECG monitors for 24-hour patient monitoring. Allow patients to follow their normal routines while being monitored. Retrieve and print data from the monitor for analysis after the monitoring period.
4.Patient Interaction: Explain procedures to patients and address any concerns and Ensure patient comfort and safety during tests.
5.Equipment Maintenance: Regularly clean and maintain ECG equipment and Report any equipment malfunctions for repair.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Diploma degree in Cardiovascular Technology or a related field, with an accredited ECG Technician Training Program Certificate. Professional Experience: Minimum of 2 years of specialized, supervised experience in Cardiovascular Technology, with a focus on Electrocardiogram (ECG) procedures. Experience must be gained in a Healthcare facility equipped with the necessary resources, equipment, and tasks relevant to the profession.
