A Medical Secretary, or Medical Administrative Assistant, is essential to the healthcare industry, responsible for managing administrative tasks in medical offices or facilities. Specializing in this role involves developing expertise in specific areas to increase efficiency and deliver high-quality support to healthcare professionals and patients. Below is an overview of possible specializations within the Medical Secretary role.



Requirements

Theoretical, practical, and procedural knowledge of the following:

1.Administrative Support: Handling phone calls, scheduling appointments, managing correspondence, reports, minutes and records of Medical Director and Deputy and maintaining patient records.

2.Medical Documentation: Transcribing medical reports, letters, and other documentation using specialized software.

3.Coordination: Liaising between patients, doctors, and other healthcare providers to ensure smooth operations within the medical facility.

4.Computer Proficiency: Proficiency in using office software, electronic health records (EHR) systems.

5.Medical Terminology: Understanding and correctly using medical terms in documentation and communication. Familiarity with common medical procedures and protocols

6.Data Entry: Typing speed of at least 50 Words per Minute, and accurate and efficient input of data into medical records and billing systems.

7.Fluent in English language.

Qualifications

Bachelor Degree in Business Administration or 2-year Diploma in medical Office Management and Secretarial Studies or a related field, providing more in-depth knowledge and skills with Professional Experience: Minimum of 2 years of specialized, supervised experience in the Medical Secretary Field
